Probus

Probus is an international association of retired (or nearly retired) people who come together in local non-political, non-sectarian, non-profit, autonomous clubs which provide regular opportunities for members to meet others in similar circumstances, make new friends, and maintain and expand their interests. Our local Kelsall and District Probus mens' club organises monthly lunches with talks, monthly walks, and visits to interesting places.

We meet monthly for a 3-course lunch, providing an ideal opportunity for conversation. The lunch is followed by a talk; recent topics include the History of Vale Royal Abbey, Coal Mining Memories, Photography, the NW Air Ambulance, the History of the RNLI, and the Making of Liverpool.

We have two walking groups, both meeting monthly and helping to keep us active! Our longer walks are about 6-7 miles in length, over moderate terrain and normally end with a pub lunch. Details of past walks and group photos are shown on our website. Our shorter "strollers" walks are about 3 miles in length. Walks for both groups are local and provide a wonderful opportunity for chatting and getting to know each other.

We also have occasional visits to interesting locations. Recent visits include the Hack Green nuclear bunker near Nantwich, the Bentley Car Factory in Crewe (not that any of us could afford to buy one!), Jodrell Bank, the Kingspan insulation factory at Hollywell, and guided walking tours of Chester and Liverpool.
