Poems & Pints at the Morris Dancer
You may be wondering just what a 'Poems & Pints evening' is. The evening is a social event for poetry fans held in Kelsall at the Morris Dancer on Chester Road (note new venue). The evening involves listening to poetry and having a drink or two. The event is hosted by our favourite poet, John Lindley (Cheshire Poet laureate, 2004). John is a marvellous poet who lives and works in Cheshire. In his own unique way he reads his poems and encourages others to take part, too. You can find out more about John on his website.
Nobody is forced to read. If you want to read a favourite poem or one of your own poems, you are encouraged to read. If not, you can sit back and listen to the readings whilst enjoying the refreshments which can be purchased from the bar at the Morris Dancer. You can choose from beverages hot and cold (and alcoholic, if preferred) and bar snacks can be savoured throughout the evening.
Contributors will normally read a wide range of different types and styles of poetry. Poems can be meaningful and emotional, but often there is plenty of humour too. You can expect to be stimulated, moved and to cry with laughter - all in the same evening.
This marvellous occasion only costs £3 per person. There are opportunities to buy from a selection of poetry books and books about the history of Kelsall. All proceeds go to supporting the Kelsall Community Library & Resource Centre here in the village, situated on Flat Lane, Kelsall at Kelsall Community Primary School. If you can come along you will experience a pleasant and stimulating evening and at the same time you will be supporting a worthy project in the village. A report on the Poems & Pints evening on 30 May 2008 can be found here.
No Poems & Pints evenings are planned
